About Little Middleton

Little Middleton is part of the Middleton Valley. People who visit us know that it's the best part.

Situated in the heart of the Valley, with the villages of Upper Middleton, Lower Middleton, Middleton in the Marsh and Middleton on the Water  just a few miles away, we offer peace and tranquility to everyone who visits. Whether you're  passing through, stopping to sample one of our famous Middleton Ales at the Freemasons Arms, or spending the night in one of the three charming B and Bs in the village, you're guaranteed a warm welcome.

Our History

We made it on to the Domesday records!

Little Middleton has been here a long time. It's believed that the Romans discovered the village and were the first people to settle here. Even then they knew what the village had to offer, as records show we were the first of the Middleton villages they moved into!

By the time of the Domesday book, the Romans were long gone of course, but the village was still here. And almost a thousand year's later, our little community remains. It might look a little different these days, but its still Little Middleton.

Shopping and entertainment

Little Middleton boasts a large range of friendly shops and cafes, as well as the Village Community Hall, where several famous names have trod the boards over the years with the likes of Morecambe and Wise, Jimmy Tarbuck and even the Beatles all believed to have performed here before they hit the big time. Nowadays the Hall is home to the ever popular Little Middleton players, one of the longest running amateur dramatics companies in the country. If you're here in the winter months make sure you see their annual pantomime, which always brings out the crowds.

Other sites of local interest include the Gaumont Cinema, one of Britain's oldest cinemas that screened the latest films in the village until its closure in 2009. You can take a tour round the cinema between 12 and 3 every weekday in the summer, with special tours also available for coach parties by arrangement, and if it's movies you're looking for, there is a large multiplex cinema in the Middleton Valley Shopping and Leisure Village just ten miles away.

Further afield

For the more adventurous tourist or business traveller, Little Middleton is the gateway to Middleton County, including the commercial hub of Middleton Town which boasts a large array of major shops including House of Fraser, Marks and Spencer and British Home Stores, as well as popular restaurants such as Nando's, Pizza Express and Jamie's Italian. Not that we think you'll want to eat there of course, once you've tried the Original Middleton Beef and Ale Pie on sale in the Freemasons Arms.
