Heritage wrecked
Following the announcement of plans to create Middleton Garden City, residents of Little Middleton have launched the Save Little Middleton campaign, and hope that it will preserve their historic community and keep it out of the hands of property developers and speculators.
Speaking exclusively to The Villager, Antonia Morgan, leader of the campaign, told us;
'Our future is at stake. And not just our future. Our past. Our history. There are people who would destroy this in the name of so-called progress. We say no to progress. We’re happy as we are.'

Council Scumbags
The controversy began after Middleton County Council approved plans for the creation of a new city that would combine Middleton Town and other villages within a 20 mile radius of the town. Speaking about the proposals last year, Parish Councillor, Coleen Cousins said 'Extending the town corridor will destroy the unique identity of the village. The village will lose its character as more homes are built and the people buying those homes won’t be people who grew up here. The new homes will be an eyesore compared to the beautiful traditional cottages, bungalows and old houses that the village is renowned for worldwide.'
To raise awareness of their campaign, leaders have taken the radical step of organising a series of events across the country, under the name 'A Beginner's Guide To Populism'. More about these events can be read here. The full statement by Antonia Morgan on the threat to Little Middleton and how to save the village can be read here.

Murder in the Village
From Little Middleton Daily News - fresh to your doorstep every week
Murder comes to Little Middleton
Murder came to the streets of Little Middleton last week, with three brutal killings in the space of 72 hours. But it was alright, they weren't real murders, it was just the cast of ITV's long running detective programme 'Midsomer Murders'
After TV tec John Barnaby reportedly stopped at the village on his way to filming an episode of the programme, he became so enamoured with our little town that he knew it was the ideal setting for one of their speciality grisly murders, so he and the rest of the people from ITV came back and filmed 'Murder in Midsomer Middleton'.
Locals got in on the action as The Freemasons Arms was transformed into the Gallows Inn as Barnaby and his latest sidekick went for a pint and questioned TV pub landlord John Thompson about strange goings on in the pool room.

Killers identity unknown
Everyone had a great time and really got in on the action. The town's own bobby PC David Moseley said afterwards 'It wasn't like a normal days policing for me, I can tell you. There was a murder and we don't get them here. I really had to put my thinking hat on to try and work out who did it.'
Of course, DC Moseley and other villagers still don't know, as the tight security that surrounds the programme, as well as the fact that the scenes in the police station and the ones where the murderer is caught, are filmed in a TV studio rather than a real police station, means that the secret of who the murderer is and why they did it won't be revealed until the programme goes to air.
Looks like he and the rest of us will have to play detective just that little bit longer!
